“Style is something each of us already has, all we need to do is find it” Quote by Diane Von Furstenburg. (DVF) African wear is becoming quite popular, from dashiki shirts to the inspired Christian Louboutin Africaba Tote bag. One issue that most people face , is that African wear is usually perceived to be for a certain age group, which is completely false. Everyone can wear African wear and fabric as seen on most of this year’s prom red carpets.
For this post, Diane Nthurima and I wear authentic Ankara blazers by Kogo Wear. This collection is one from their menswear collection and we decided to make it a His and Hers project. The base of the looks were pretty simple with an all black monochromatic top and bottom.
This outfit is perfect for a date night out, an African themed event, and a casual Friday at the office. Pair the look with a simple white shirt, or black shirt or a black sweater as I did in the look. For the ladies, you can pair the blazer with a black vest or white vest and legging and boots for an extra edgy look as worn by Diane.
Ankara fabric is very vibrant on its own. It’s important to tone down the whole outfit by pairing the fabric with neutral tones that won’t attract too much attention.
