ROMA DESIGNS AFRICA |TAKING RISKS
These past few months there has been a dimensional change when it comes to the conversation about blogging and bloggers. Most recently, I have noticed that a lot of bloggers both local and foreign are giving a little piece of advice here and there . How to start a blog with no budget by Kenyan blogger Nancie Mwai is my latest read and I immediately went into a state of retrospect to around 9 months ago when I finally decided to gather my thoughts and inspiration ideas and go for it. No camera, No WiFi , just passion , a wardrobe and a support system. Fast forward to today , here I am working with different brands like Infinix Kenya , doing reviews, getting custom made pieces and outfits by local designers like Roma Designs Africa. All I can say is that I am grateful I took a risk and did what I could. I urge you today take a risk and make it happen.
When it comes to fashion and personal style what are some of the risks that you can take and make the best out of them? If I tell you that this outfit was not meant to be how it is would you agree? I think the person who discovered dip and dye or ripped jeans was not out to find out how bleach can affect clothes , it must have been an accident if sorts.
I wore this outfit to Thrift Social 7, the denim edition. Knowing that I did not want to blend in with everyone at the event , I asked my good friend Robert Mandela creator of Roma Designs Africa , to help me come up with an outfit for the day. After a couple of hours we settled on the type of shirt I wanted, which was a mandarin collar and longline shirt, I initially wanted the sky blue acid wash color , but he took a risk and got me this grey stone wash fabric. I remember telling him on phone that I was not too excited about the color. He laughed and told me to collect my outfit the next day. I was in love!! His fashion risk paid off! This is by far one of my most favorite outfits. At Thrift Social not only did I stand out but I got a style approval from NarokNYC creator Zeddie Lukoe, which was a major highlight in its own way.
WORKING WITH DESIGNERS | ROMA DESIGNS AFRICA
When working with designers it is important that there is a synchronized interaction. They should understand what you like and how you like it. As a client you should also understand their capability and challenge their skills in a good way.
