For the past few months after I finished my university degree I was fortunate to get a 9 to 5. I have had a 9 to 5 before and I juggled that with being in class and having a fulfilling AIESEC experience, but I will talk about that in another post. When someone asked me what are some of the things I have learnt so far being out of university , I contemplated writing a follow up post to my lifestyle changes and post college decisions read here, I was super excited and I got to thinking that one of the things I have come to appreciate more is time to myself and self love.
When it comes to decisions that I have had to make, these have become more profound and of value; whether to get a place of my own until I am financially stable or whether I need to spend that extra 3000 KES to buy a pair of shoes that I might wear once. These are some of the few decisions I have had to make and think of the impact it would have in my near and distant future.
HOW I DECIDED TO APPRECIATE MYSELF WITH A VISIT TO CROWNE PLAZA NAIROBI
One thing I am certain about is that every month I do something special for myself and this can be as simple as getting an extra pair of sunglasses, or eating a tub of ice-cream by myself getting that extra hour of some shut eye, visits to hotels in Nairobi, heck even lying on a comfy pillow. When I had the opportunity to visit the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi after a long week I was definitely sold on the idea of weekend getaways! Located in Upper Hill, the hotel is quiet and tranquil with minimal activity happening around it save from kids’ laughter and the occasional screaming during swimming classes. Such youth!
The ambiance of the room was one of the major highlights, the executive suite is perfect for that hideaway during the weekend.
I was also intrigued by the collector items that were spread all round the room, being an interior décor enthusiast I fully appreciate the effort that the curator of the rooms put into piecing and matching the various items.
First thing about post college decisions is thinking about your future, whether you plan on moving out. If you are moving out where are you going to stay? How much rent are you willing to pay? For how long?
Another major post college decision would be whether to find a job or venture into passion. Based on your career and your projection in life, this is decision is very fundamental to your sanity. The question is do you want to make an income or do you want to live a fulfilling life? If one can have both then you are absolutely lucky. In my case, I tend to believe that I am a multi-tasker and I believe that I can do it all. Someone once told me I was frayed and I took this heart, however I tried to make this one of my positive elements. I have been able to juggle my fashion career and follow my passion which sometimes proves to be difficult but I have learnt to maximise the hours I have.
Sadly, the last one is more personal and that is the company that you keep. The first step to having a fulfilling post college decision is ‘screening’ your company. When you finish your college your interests change and so does that of those around you. The people around you can make or break you and I cannot emphasise enough on this.
As I grow older and deal with more “adulting” all I can say is adore yourself and adore what you do. Take some time off and relax the little things that life has to offer.
