How to pick out the best everyday bag | fashion blogger Fred AnyonaI have always loved bags, and no I am not that bag guy. However, you will find me carrying a bag any time of the day, unless it is a night out. My bag journey has transitioned from what I carried in primary school to being in high school , then four years of being an international relations student and now as a young professional. When picking out an everyday bag, I put in a lot of consideration of how I will carry this bag and how it will be versatile based on the occasion, and what will potentially be carried. Unlike a shirt that you can easily swap, one is most likely going to carry the same bag day in day out.

When buying a bag it is important to understand that it is about YOU , and what you LIKE. But there are other factors that you need to consider:

EVERYDAY BAG TO COLLEGE

Back when I was in university or college, I used to carry a lot of books, my laptop a couple of supplies and a bottle of water (read soda) . I wanted so bad to have a messenger bag but carrying all that in a messenger bag would cause serious damage to someone’s shoulder , so I got a backpack instead.

For an everyday bag to college I suggest that one should get a backpack. With so many Kenyan brands like Suave Kenya, Denri among others there are loads of designs and fabrics to pick from. If you don’t have that 3000 KES to spend on a bag you can always go thrifting.

This backpack I have on is actually thrifted and when I tell people that it cost me 1000 KES  (Around 10 USD) most people are surprised. It has lasted me for more than four years and is still very sturdy and strong.

EVERYDAY CARRY BAG TO TOWN

I loved this one because all I need to carry with me is my diary ( yes , I am very old school) , a note pad , a good book , my charger , cologne and any other small item, like a bag of marshmallows. This bag is not too hefty and can easily fit an 8inch tablet easily which is the average size of an iPad mini.

EVERYDAY CARRY BAG TO SHOPPING

With the recent ban of plastic paper bags in Kenya, most brands are trying to reinvent shopping bags, but Kangarui is way ahead of them. When I saw this tote bags for the first time at Fashion High Tea earlier this year , I gasped and knew that I needed to have at least one of them. They come in different bold African print fabrics and they are very chic. What makes even better is the acronym T.I.A , which according to Rui the creative director means This Is Africa. However I know that different people from the world have different meaning to that. At least, This Is Africa is clearly written.  I do know Chimano from Sauti Sol owns one , so heyyyyy! Then I recently saw that they have black and white ones, yes.

The tote bags are perfect for light weight shopping at the grocery store or even a trip to Masai Market, which you can read more on here. I use mine a lot , when I am meeting up a friend at a mall and I just need to carry a couple of snacks, my 11inch laptop and its pretty easy breezy. However , it might be considered a bit riske especially in Kenya, but style is about you and how you feel.
